1435 Ultimate Stone Sealant - Suggested Application Tips
Have enough product on hand: it's a shame to take a pond apart twice. Ultimate Stone Sealant will cover:
- 500 square feet per gallon per coat on limestone, so a 5 gallon bucket will cover approximately 2500 square feet of surface area for one coat.
Since 2 coats are required for the inital sealing, real product numbers look like 250 square feet per gallon per coat, or 1250 square feet total for
2 coats.
- Mortar and sandstone are very porous. Sandstone only occasionally needs sealed, but mortar grows a lot of algae. 250 square feet per gallon per coat on mortar/sandstone, so a 5 gallon bucket will cover approximately 2500 square feet of surface area for one coat.
Since 2 coats are required for the inital sealing, real product numbers look like 125 square feet per gallon per coat, or 625 square feet total for
2 coats. Ultimate Stone Sealant will seal HAIRLINE cracks, but larger ones will need repaired, and any new mortar allowed to cure, before sealant is applied.
- 200 to 400 square feet per gallon on concrete, so a 5 gallon bucket will typically cover 1000 square feet of poured concrete.
Site preparation - sealing a concrete or stone and mortar pond. All concrete or mortar MUST be fully cured before application.
(We've been using this in the pond service for 2 years...It is thoroughly EF tested.)
- Drain the pond. Move fish to a large stock tank or other large container, supply aeration - they'll be out at least 28 hours.
- Powerwash with plain water all concrete, mortar, sandstone to be sealed. Once it is sealed, any remaining embedded dirt is pretty permanent.
- Drain water away again. Shop-Vac. Thin amounts of water on surface are not a problem, stone or concrete does not have to be perfectly
dry. This is an aqueous product.
- Rubber gloves, rubber boots, and protective eyewear are suggested. Clean rags will be needed for blotting up excess.
- Use a new pump type garden sprayer, a roller, brush or rag. Shake before using. Pour some into sprayer or roller pan, bowl, etc. Mark time when you begin
application. Apply from top down, smooth even strokes with some overlap and proceed around the sidewalls, then the bottom of the pond. Mark time when finished.
- Blot up excess starting at same point application began. White puddles should be blotted up with absorbent clean rags. Clean sprayer or roller.
- Begin second coat about 2 hours from beginning first coat, at same point on pond.
- Wait ten minutes, then blot up all puddling with rags. Allow pond to dry for 24 hours, a bit longer in cool weather or high humidity.
- Refill pond, put everything back.
- Recoat for UV damage every 2 years. Possibly more frequently on waterfall areas where powerful falls pound the rocks constantly.
