Super Salt, Fritz Having tried many salts, this one ties with Reef Crystals for
quality. The gel form makes it a little tougher to measure, but it dissolves readily. The 2 gallon size is convenient and easier to work with for small aquariums.

Occasionally a marine customer is using unfiltered tap water for a reef tank, because the trace elements match marine macroalgae requirements. The preferred chlorine
remover for these customers is by far Fritz-Guard.
1165 Fritz-Guard Water Conditioner,
dechlorinates plus neutralizes heavy metals. Product of Texas. 1 teaspoon treats 20 gallons.

30 Seachem Marine Buffer, 250 g/8.825 oz
-- EF tested since 1995. We still like it, if low pH is a problem - particularly in fish only setups with a slightly lower specific gravity. We add
about 1/2 teaspoon per 5 gallons when mixing saltwater.

Other additives for water changes:
-- We use a capful per 5 gallons.

Marine Basics - getting the water chemistry right, and keeping the chemistry right between water changes.
 Saltwater Basics
There are things that we use in our marine and reef tanks that we cannot sell. Algone is limited by the mfgr to brick and mortar storefronts.
It's good stuff. Not as good as regular water changes, but we can't sell it. Having played with salt mix from Oceanic, Hawaiian Marine, and a handful of others,
I have a definite fondness for Reef Crystals, and so do my tanks. But with freight in and freight out, unless you really need it, we cannot afford to carry
salt mix in stock for the store. Email if you really need salt shipped, and we'll set it up.
Mostly we get to carry what we like. Tetra and Seachem tests. They are a bit pricey. But we like them better than a few others we've tried.
But it's hard to find some things, so we kinda have to have Kent supplements. Because
we CAN get them at a decent cost. We try to pass the savings on. There are a ton of things we've never tried, that may have worked well for you. Let us know.
by email. And thanks for visiting. The place has been a mess for awhile. We've tested lots of marine ich cures. If you are
chasing one and it isn't here, email. If we tried and it flunked we need to tell you privately. If we haven't tried and it's great, we want to add it.

If you think freshwater aquariums are complicated,
try recreating the highly competitive environment of a reef. Not only do many species that live in reefs
feed on each other, (which can cause very expensive pets to become each others' snacks), the environment is quite
possibly the most biologically and chemically complex environment on Earth. The rare and exotic beauty of marine fish,
corals and anemones have charmed many first-time reef-keepers into ecological (and financial) disasters.
But the fascination continues. Now, if only a book could save the day, and part of your wallet, as you consider recreating
nature's undersea garden in your living room. Robert Metelsky's Simplified Reef Keeping is the book for
all first time reef keepers. It has vital and useful information that even experienced marine hobbyists can put to immediate and
practical use. His book starts with the practical and financial facts of salt water aquariums, then
shows you where and how to do-it-yourself, and end up with a larger, more beautiful tank when you've finished.
Once the tank is in place, Mr. Metelsky takes you step by step through cycling with live rock, and avoiding reef
predators that may be hiding on it, choosing and adding sturdy and beautiful stock. The accompanying CD Rom answers
many additional questions with very creative solutions that work in a marine environment. Before you buy the tank, before you
look at a cabinet stand, and before you think about ordering a pump, read this book. It's step by step approach
will simplify the process, and save you $2000 to $5000 in the process, while giving you a finished
reef aquarium that exceeds all of your expectations.
- Explains all the elements of a successful reef tank.
- Shows you how to build all of the major components yourself.
- Tells you where and how to buy materials and livestock at the best prices.
- This book is a complete 'A to Z' explanation of all practical aspects of reef-keeping.
